Skin Rejuvenation Q & A

What is IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light is a cutting-edge treatment that targets multiple trouble stops at once. Light energy is delivered through your skin’s surface to stimulate new collagen production and skin renewal from within.

Each treatment takes 15-30 minutes. You may need 2-5 sessions once per month until you’ve reached your desired look, followed by maintenance sessions that are less frequent.

IPL can help reduce a variety of skin issues, including:

  • Age spots
  • Blotchiness
  • Capillaries
  • Freckles
  • Redness
  • Rosacea: May be reduced by up to 90%

The most common side effect of IPL is mild discomfort. Your skin may appear flushed and darker areas of your skin may be more visible at first. These effects will fade within a few days before new skin gradually resurfaces and unwanted pigmentation breaks apart.

What is ThreeForMe™?

ThreeForMe can help solve all of your skin concerns, including brown spots, facial veins, acne scars, sun damage, and wrinkles at once. During the 30-minute session, Dr. Wielenga uses the Cynosure® ICON™ laser to treat discoloration and unwanted facial veins. Then he uses a microbeam laser to gently renew your skin. This unique technology stimulates collagen and elastin production, leading to more firm and youthful skin structure.

Topical numbing cream and cool gel packs help minimize discomfort during your treatment. Afterward, you may experience redness and swelling which should resolve in within a few days. You’ll see continued improvements in your skin within 1-3 treatments.

What is Fractional Non-Ablative Skin Resurfacing?

For fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing, Dr. Wielenga uses Cynosure ICON laser technology to reverse the appearance of skin irregularities, including acne and surgical scars, fine lines, and stretch marks. It focuses specifically on your desired problem areas and stimulates collagen production and cell rejuvenation below the surface.

What is laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing works by releasing precision light energy into the deepest layers of your skin, where it stimulates collagen growth and helps tighten underlying tissues. Dr. Wielenga and his team use the CynoSure® lasers with state-of-the-art fractional laser technology. The laser's focused microbeams of light penetrate more deeply than other types of lasers, giving you more effective, longer-lasting results.

As the heated tissue begins a healing process to form new, healthier tissue, you’ll see smoother, more youthful skin with fewer wrinkles, age spots, and flaws.

What are the benefits of laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing may not be able to completely erase every flaw, but it can correct or significantly improve the appearance of a variety of skin conditions, including:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Blotchy, uneven skin tone or texture
  • Leathery, sun-damaged skin
  • Age spots or sun spots
  • Actinic keratosis (AK), a precancerous skin growth
  • Surfaces scars, including acne scars
  • Rosacea and capillaries near the skin’s surface
  • Spider veins on the face, neck, and legs

Which areas of the body can be treated?

Laser skin resurfacing is most commonly used to treat facial skin, particularly problem areas like age-related wrinkles around the mouth and eyes. It can be used to rejuvenate the skin virtually anywhere on your body, however, including your neck, chest, back, arms, legs, and hands.

Who should avoid laser treatments?

Laser skin resurfacing isn’t suitable for everyone. Dr. Wielenga may advise you to avoid the treatment if any of the following apply:

  • You’ve taken the acne medication isotretinoin in the past year
  • You’re pregnant or nursing
  • The area you’d like to treat has undergone radiation therapy
  • You have diabetes, an autoimmune disorder, or a weakened immune system

*Individual results may vary.
